Mitchell Nursing Home officially joined the Ritz Lutheran Villa ‘continuing care retirement community’ on October 2, 2006 through a fully approved transfer of ownership from the Ontario Government’s Ministry of Health and Long Term Care. This home is located in a quiet residential area at 184 Napier Street on the opposite side of the Thames River from the main Campus of Ritz Lutheran Villa.
Mitchell Nursing Home was established in 1969 and operates 48 long term care beds. Bill Smith, founder and former owner/operator of Mitchell Nursing Home, very much wanted the home to enjoy continuity in West Perth. He was committed to ensuring the best scenario for the future of Mitchell Nursing Home and all the people it touches. To this end, he approached Ritz Lutheran Villa believing they could provide the opportunity to keep the beds and jobs in the community.
Brent Nafziger, CEO of the Ritz Lutheran Villa Charitable Corporation and Administrator of both Ritz Lutheran Villa and Mitchell Nursing Home at the time of aquisition, stated: “Bill Smith and his family have created and run a very successful organization and are respected members of this community. We are pleased that Bill came to us first and we will honour the trust he has placed in us.”
Ritz Lutheran Villa as a corporate entity is now in its 34th year of service to the community of Mitchell, the Municipality of West Perth and beyond. Its commitment to providing compassionate quality care, housing and related services to enrich the lives of seniors now continues through the blending of two respected organizations – two homes, one vision. This blending opens the doors wider to further seniors’ oriented development in the area, while ensuring the retention of a key sector in the local economic and social fabric.
